Key Initiatives

We’re constantly looking for clever, practical ways to work more efficiently, reduce our impact, and future‑proof our orchards so that kiwifruit growing can continue for generations. When parts of our land aren’t suited to growing kiwifruit, we don’t push it. Instead, we think about how we can regenerate those spaces and restore balance.

At its core, our sustainability work reflects our values — especially Care. We see ourselves as stewards of the land, responsible for maintaining and improving what we have so that our environment, our business, and our community all benefit long-term.

Native Planting

Bringing native species back into our landscapes is one of the simplest, most effective ways we can improve soil health, support biodiversity, and create natural buffers around our orchards.

We use native planting to stabilise waterways, improve habitat for wildlife, and regenerate areas that aren’t suitable for production. It’s a practical way of giving the land back some of what it gives us.

Carbon Zero Trial Participation

We’re actively involved in carbon‑zero trial work because we want to understand what really makes a difference — not just what looks good on paper.

These trials help us measure our footprint more accurately and identify smarter, more efficient ways of operating. It’s all about learning, adjusting, and finding solutions that are genuinely workable for horticulture.

Project Spotlight

Protecting Natural Wetlands

We are restoring and protecting natural wetlands across select orchard sites. These areas help filter runoff,
improve biodiversity, and enhance ecosystem health while respecting local waterways and cultural values.

Before any kiwifruit is planted, we assess land for environmental impact and ecological opportunity. One
example is a 2.5 hectare native wetland created in partnership with local iwi, council, and government.
Projects like these help future proof our orchards and support long term environmental wellbeing.
