Whitiroa

Long Rays in the Sun

Purchased in 2011, Whiritoa Orchards carries a rich history reflected in its name, derived from “Rawhitiroa” meaning “a long day” or “a place where the sun shines for a long time.” It also speaks to the land’s place along explorer Ihenga’s journey from Maketu to Rotorua.

Whiritoa is a unique property, shaped by both its history and its future potential. Alongside its productive orchard development, the site includes a working pumice quarry, with careful land contouring to maximise usable, high-quality plantable land and overall land recovery. Remaining areas continue to be utilised productively for silage and maize.

This has been a long-term development by both name and nature. Planting is now complete, with the first full production harvest forecast from 2028.

MacDougall

MacDougall Development – Ōtamarākau

The MacDougall property in Ōtamarākau is a flagship large-scale development, with earthworks and construction now well underway. It reflects the capability to deliver complex, high-performance orchard projects at scale.

Situated between Old Coach Road and State Highway 2, the 130-hectare site offers strong growing conditions, including free-draining soils, a north-facing aspect, and a coastal climate.

The development will establish approximately 94 canopy hectares of SunGold kiwifruit, alongside native wetland areas designed for long-term environmental and land value outcomes.

With more than 3 million cubic metres of earth being moved and reshaped, MacDougall is a standout example of premium orchard transformation at scale.
